MUMBAI, India (AP) — Reports indicate that Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was injured in a stabbing incident involving an intruder at his residence early Thursday morning. He has since been taken to a hospital for surgery.

The 54-year-old actor was transported to a hospital from his residence in Mumbai, which serves as India's financial and entertainment hub. He lives there with his film star wife, Kareena Kapoor, and their two sons.

According to a doctor from Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, as reported by the Press Trust of India, two out of the six wounds were severe, including one located close to his spine.

According to reports from Indian media, authorities stated that an intruder broke into Khan's residence around 2:30 a.m. and escaped after stabbing him. Additionally, a female staff member at Khan's home sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical care, as reported by the police.

Authorities are conducting an investigation and have initiated a manhunt for the assailant.

In a statement, Kapoor, Khan's spouse, assured that the family is doing well and urged both the media and fans to remain patient, advising against further speculation as the police are currently conducting their investigations.

Khan, a movie producer as well, has appeared in approximately 70 films and television shows. He is the offspring of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, a former Indian cricket captain, and Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore.

He has garnered several accolades for his performances in Hindi films, including seven Filmfare Awards. In 2010, he was honored with the Padma Shri, which is the fourth highest civilian award in India.
