Keke Palmer exposed her ex-manager after being "traumatized" over something they said.
The actress and host reflected on her early career during a recent interview with The Cut. She admitted that it was difficult being her family’s money maker and was under a lot of "pressure." Her family would keep booking her roles to be able to provide for them without realizing that she was starting to "hate them."
She said: "I hated my parents for a long time. There was so much pressure to rise to the occasion for my community, for my parents, for my siblings, for their sacrifices. They weren’t saying it, but that was the reality. Because I’m the one that we all came here for."
Fame attracts both admiration and criticism, often from those closest to you. Keke revealed that her previous manager warned her when she was just 12 years old that "her mother would die" if she didn't shed some pounds, leaving her deeply "traumatized."

She expressed, "That experience was incredibly traumatizing and caused me a lot of stress. I couldn't shake off the thought that she might not survive, and I started worrying about things like hospital expenses. It all felt overwhelming." Since then, Keke's mother, Sharon, has taken on the role of her manager.
Following the success of Nickelodeon's True Jackson, VP, Keke Palmer recognized the constraints placed on her as a young Black woman in Hollywood. She acknowledged that she wasn't included in the same discussions as stars like Victoria Justice, Selena Gomez, or Miley Cyrus during that period. She reflected on how often it was labeled as "the Black show" or referred to as "Keke Palmer, the Black girl on the network."
Keke has established herself as a prominent figure in Hollywood. She appeared in Jordan Peele's 2022 film Nope, sharing the screen with Daniel Kaluuya and Steven Yeun, and has also starred in 2022's Alice, as well as Hustlers (2019) and various other projects. In addition to her acting career, she hosts the podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer and serves as the CEO of KeyTV Network. Recently, she published a memoir titled Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, where she candidly discusses the obstacles she has encountered and the importance of setting personal boundaries.
