Despite the tumultuous history between Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Angie (Erika Christensen), fans are not likely to witness a romantic rekindling between the former couple in Will Trent Season 3. However, the new season promises to explore their evolving dynamics while preserving their friendship.
Following the introduction of Will’s new love interest, Marion (Gina Rodriguez), in the first episode titled “I’m a Guest Here,” anticipation is high for the introduction of Angie’s love interest, Dr. Seth McDale, played by Scott Foley. The wait is nearly over, as EP Liz Heldens has hinted at Foley's debut in an interview with TVLine, alongside co-showrunner Daniel Thomsen and star/EP Ramón Rodríguez. Heldens teased:
“Episode 8 is just around the corner, and it's not too early to start the countdown. Dr. Seth McDale is an emergency room physician at the hospital nearest to our police station. We wanted to establish a connection that feels organic to our setting. Given the hospital's recurring presence in the series, it seemed like the perfect fit.”
The co-showrunner provided further insights into Foley's character, describing him as:
“A character who might offer significant insights into our cases. He's designed to be a figure of sobriety and maturity, unafraid to call out Angie on her nonsense. Having previously worked with Scott Foley [on Fox’s The Big Leap], I can vouch for his talent. He makes a surprising entrance in Episode 8, setting the stage for an intriguing journey between the characters.”
Marion as Will's "Emotionally Balanced" Partner
As the third season of Will Trent unfolds, viewers can look forward to the development of Will’s relationship with Marion beyond the confines of the GBI, with occasional involvement from the ADA. According to Heldens, Marion stands in stark contrast to Angie, who shares a troubled past with Will. The EP further explained:
“Marion represents emotional stability, likely due to her upbringing in a close-knit family where she regularly communicated with her parents and was showered with love. Placing Will in a relationship with someone like Marion raises the question: how does this dynamic shift from his past with Angie, who shared many similarities and enjoyed comfortable silences with him? What new challenges might emerge when both characters enter relationships with communicative partners?”
Will Trent Season 3 airs on Tuesdays on ABC, with previous seasons available on Hulu.
