Keke Palmer spoke out against her ex-manager for the distressing impact of their words.
The actress and host recalled her early career in a recent interview with The Cut. She shared the struggle of being the family's breadwinner and the immense "pressure" that came with it. Her family would continually secure roles for her to support them, not realizing she was starting to "resent them."
She confessed: "I resented my parents for a long time. There was immense pressure to meet the expectations for my community, my parents, my siblings, and their sacrifices. It wasn't spoken, but that was the reality. I was the reason we were all here."

She stated, "That experience was incredibly traumatizing and caused me a lot of stress. I couldn't stop thinking about her not surviving, and I began worrying about hospital bills. It was all very overwhelming." Since then, Keke's mother, Sharon, has taken on the role of her manager.
After the success of Nickelodeon's True Jackson, VP, Keke Palmer recognized the limitations placed on her as a young Black woman in Hollywood. She noted that she wasn't part of the same conversations as stars like Victoria Justice, Selena Gomez, or Miley Cyrus during that time. She reflected on how it was often labeled as "the Black show" or referred to as "Keke Palmer, the Black girl on the network."
