A recent survey from BabyCenter indicates that certain names, including Catherine, Jaden, Anne, Phillip, Jamal, and Esteban, are likely to become increasingly rare by 2025. Similarly, names such as Edward, Erin, Kelsey, Cannon, and Emery are anticipated to see a decrease in their prevalence.
"As we welcome 2025, BabyCenter has identified names that are rapidly losing favor and may become obsolete this year," the company announced in a press release on Thursday. "These are the names we anticipate will be less frequently chosen this year for the Generation Beta babies being born."
BabyCenter's selection of these names was based on a significant decrease in registration figures from 2023 to 2024.

BabyCenter noted that names that were trendy among millennials, such as Erin, Kelsey, Chelsea, Kendra, Alexis, and Taylor, which were very popular when millennials were born in the 1980s and 1990s, are "no longer being registered in large numbers today."
Names inspired by the royal family, like Catherine, Anne, Phillip, Albert, and Edward, also experienced a decline, each dropping more than 100 spots in the rankings.
"The press release highlighted that Catherine experienced the most dramatic decrease, plummeting 221 positions in the rankings."
Certain names are falling from grace: 'Over Jaden'
For boys, the name Jaden, once a "highly popular" choice, has seen a significant dip in its popularity.
"BabyCenter reports that parents are growing tired of the name Jaden. This once fashionable and iconic '-aden' name for boys reached its peak popularity at No. 62 in 2002. However, after a significant drop of 162 positions last year, it now ranks at No. 433."
Jaden is not alone in its waning popularity. BabyCenter also notes that several once-loved nicknames such as Danny (for Daniel), Andy (for Andrew), Liv (for Olivia), Billy (for William), and Katie (for Kaitlyn) are also becoming less popular.
